A passion for food — and presenting it well
Husband and wife team Frank & Clare Lee share a passion for food. Their kitchen cupboards are overflowing with kitchen utensils, implements and accessories. Their pantry is full of home-made basics such as passata, masalas, harissa, sauces, chilli jams, preserved lemons, pickled vegetables and much more.
Frank has been interested in photography since his pre-teen years when his parents gave him a Kodak Box Brownie camera. He turned professional in 1982, opening his first studio in the Sydney suburb of Balmain having spent the previous 6 years in the advertising industry. He took the plunge and leased a Hasselblad system and purchased a used Toyo 5” x 4” view camera and immediately started specialising in studio still life photography.
Clare’s background in bio-chemistry didn’t prepare her for magazine publishing, which is the position she found herself in while living in Singapore in the late ‘90s. As Associate Publisher of The Expat magazine she found herself commissioning photography on a regular basis. She and Frank met in Singapore in 2000 and when Frank moved back to Australia in 2002, Clare came with him. They were married in 2002 in the gazebo in their garden and their marriage blessed in the Anglican Church in Cooroy where they continue to worship.
Today they operate a general photography practice, although food remains one of their specialities. They also photograph products, cars, fashion and beauty, portraits and around 20 or so weddings a year. They also design web sites, brochures, publications and advertisements for their clients.
